That our bodies were made from clay also connects us to the humble earth that we walk on...so when we die our body returns to the elements and the ego which vaunted itslef above the earth is humbled... Also all the emperors and great conquerers resolve into the same element as the stable boy and the thief.

Another thing about the name "Adam" which I think you could look up the Hebrew meaning Adama it means or refers to red earth...
