In addition, I've encountered people who think auto-writing is gov't or alien mind control.
They ask how do I know the identity of the author. Good question. The rational side of me tells me I
can't know the identity of the author, not with certainty. What I believe is that the author is a deeper part of myself. I do not believe the words are fed to me by aliens or human "handlers," so called mind controllers.
Along with auto-writing there is a specific state of mind that goes with it. It's hard for me to describe but I'd liken it to what alcoholics call a moment of clarity.
Sometimes the product of auto-writing is junk and sometimes it's not. Then there are the rare occasions when one is able to eliminate their "little self" taint and the words have a "divine" origin; these are probably most rare. I do believe this is how much of the Bible and other scriptures were written.
I suppose it's considered by some to be blasphemous to auto-write as one might think they are adding to or changing the Bible and
that is where the blasphemy lies. I plunge ahead undeterred by that as I am not a Christian.
The way I see it, my deeper self, or higher self, is the source of the writings. My deeper self, as everyone's deeper self, is directly connected to God. I don't view God as way off in heaven nor as a being never that can be connected with, communed with. I view my deeper self as a )long( tunnel, a tunnel that connects my little self with God. When I shut out my little self, my mind can traverse the tunnel and tidbits, if you will, come to me in the form of writing and occasionally speech.
I formulated this deeper self = tunnel connecting my little self to God in one of my poems... Lemniscate Gate in the creative corner...
My Poetry
Quote:
through the fullness tunnel-bridge of my mind
the continuum spiral helix joining
zero to Infinity in a consortium most divine.
We are the bricks in the tunnel leading one
through dark and light & back again.

Oh and I don't know about how other people write poetry, but 95% of mine is auto-writing...
