In Chapter One we are given a grand picture of Jesus Christ as He is now in eternity. Especially emphasized is His role as Great High priest and Lord over the church.

This is one of most symbolic and cryptic books you can read outside the Book of Daniel maybe... and it is apocalyptic.

Jesus' white hair symbolizes wisdom and eternality and his flaming eyes represents judgment. The double-edged sword represents the Word of God and his bronze like feet represents an altar. If I saw a man like that I would definitely drop to my knees and do whatever he tells me.

I always like to look at actual text if possible as I can so John was in the Spirit on the Lord's Day and this is the vision:
"...and in the midst of the lampstands one like a son of man, clothed with a long robe and with a golden girdle round his breast; [14] his head and his hair were white as white wool, white as snow; his eyes were like a flame of fire, [15] his feet were like burnished bronze, refined as in a furnace, and his voice was like the sound of many waters" So in this experience as described in Revelation we have "...one like the son of man" ... Is it by necessity Jesus or one like Him? I agree the words are symbolic though. - Art

The Son of man is a messianic title from Daniel 7:13, and is Jesus' favorite designation for Himself.
Revelation 1:18 - I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death. Christ is the living God, so Christ is he that liveth. He also became dead when he humbled himself to die on the cross (cf. Phil. 2:6-8), but then rose to live forevermore. So it refers to Jesus. Love, Madeline |

Well what interests me is that the verse in question
"...and in the midst of the lampstands one like a son of man, clothed with a long robe and with a golden girdle round his breast.." like [3664] homoios unto the Son [5207] huios of man, [444] anthropos implies the Person resembles or is like the son of man. If it was meant to say the Son of man as Jesus it wouldn't need the "homoios"... - Art

Like unto the Son of man is better rendered as, 'like unto a son of man', i.e., resembling a man, being in human form or a human being. There is no article in the Greek so the writer is saying that the person resembled him in form. He doesn't begin by stating that it is Jesus because the man he saw was in a vision. Quote:

My reply: Good response... - Art
