Matthew 27:45-46,50-Time of Jesus Crucifixion, giving up the ghost
Hi
I am reading the account of Crucifixion narrated in the Gospels and have observed as under: Mark says that from the sixth hour to the ninth hour darkness came over the whole land. Luke also says the same thing. However John does not agree with it John 19:13-15; in his opinion about the sixth hour Jesus was yet in the court of Pilate and Jesus was not yet crucified. "Here is your king," Pilate said to the Jews. However, Mark says with surety that (Mark 15:25) It was the third hour when they crucified him. (It has to be seen if Mark wants to say that at the start of the third hour Jesus was put on Cross or he wants to say that Jesus gave up the ghost at the end of the third hour, that has to be clarified.) Matthew says (27:45-46,50) From the sixth hour until the ninth hour darkness came over all the land, an it was-About the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice, "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?” which means, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?", and it was only afterwards when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit. I just want to know the time, in present terms; at what time Jesus was put on Cross and at what time he gave up his spirit or ghost. Just for my information. How the above are to be reconciled and understood? Thanks I am an Ahmadi - a peaceful faith in Islam. |

The only times I've seen people mince the gospels to this level are when anti-Christian critics are specifically looking for ways to detract against the integrity of the accounts, in order to then insert their own theological view as the alternative. They assume that their contradictory interpretation of the gospels is the ONLY interpretation, thereby making it appear that the contents of the gospels are unreliable history. Ahmadi clearly got this from one of those Muslim anti-Christian propaganda websites / booklets. How do I know? Because they are the only ones who care at exactly which hour Jesus died -- and they only care because they're scouring the gospels in search of contradictions. They in fact have lists with scores of "Bible contradictions." ...What they never look at, however, is the Christian responses, where every single one is shown to be a misreading. |
