Well, we would have to find someone that had someone they could test the theory with, preferrably a few people. Then we could test the validity of statements (or perhaps volunteers!) as to their calibration. We could then compare the numbers and see how close the calibrations come to one another. Just a thought.

Preface, Forward, and Introduction

Dr. Hawkins lays out his purpose and foreshadowing here. He talks about the possibilities of being able to accurately determine the validity of yes/no questions and defines kinesiology:

Quote:
The study of muscles and their movement, esp. as applicable to physical conditioning. He cites the studies of a Dr. John Diamond and gives a brief overview of his method for testing.

He then gives a background of his own experience which he labels the Presence. He details how he became associated with it, how it formulated his spiritual outlook and career choice as a psychologist.

Finally he lays out the premise for this method to be considered as science. He briefly goes over his methodologies and experiments with the practice, detailing some of the conditions for its use.

This seemed to me like an extrodinary claim:

Quote:
Another time, I was walking down the streets of a strange city, when the energy started to flow down the block ahead of me. I happened to arrive at a scene of an incipient gang fight, and the combatants fell back and began to laugh. Then the energy stopped again.

Maybe this actually happened, it just struck me like a kid telling stories. He says "a strange city" instead of just naming the location. How many people just "haapen onto" a gang fight? Why was he even in that neighborhood? Just strikes me as odd. Maybe he's detailed this experience in another book of his, but it would seem to me, if he wanted his book to be taken seriously as scientific, this type of narration detracts from it.

I agree with you T.C. that it is a little odd not to mention more details, but I am sure he had his reasons. I don't think that the city was important or why he was there, the goal was to draw the readers attention to that which he wanted one to perceive.

Sometimes (if not, often) the attention goes to that which we can relate to, such as if he would have said New York, everything we asscoiate with NY and everything we have ever heard of NY, would be validated and the message would have been deluted.

I don't have a problem believing him that the fight broke up simply by him walking into it. This could be seen as his presence recognized or the simple fact that most people would not just walk into a fight, they would walk the other way out of fear. The gang was probably shocked over his action and therefore started to laugh.
