Perhaps you should teach Oprah's enlightenment class, Viv!
You could have watched the webcast even if you weren't registered. However, you have to download their video player, which is a speedy process.

I couldn't watch the class, because I have dial up. The book is about ego, how it interferes with higher consciousness and how to deal with ego.

I think it would be best to have read the book or be reading it in order to take part in this thread. This thread is about understanding the book.

Yes, I agree. I think I misjudged the book too fast. I saw the class today and got a bigger picture. I think Tolle is right on. I went to Walgreens today and as I was standing at the register, I happend to gaze at the candy stand right in front of me (as I often do : ) and believe it or not (that is up to you : ) Tolle's book was laying right in front of me! I took it as a sign and bought it.

Maybe there is something I still know, that I need to unknow. Who knows???? LOL

I took a walk in the park today. The sun is shining, it's about 55 degrees, a very slight breeze. There are ponds and streams. There is also a children's petting zoo. Sheep were grazing and staring at me. The deciduous trees are still bare, but starting to bud. Birds were singing and moles had left many mounds of dirt.

I worked at being in the present, being completely in the moment. When I was successful at having no thoughts, what I felt was pure joy. It's all so simple, but at the same time difficult to turn off the thoughts.

That is soo great L.K. I really think it is that simple. It makes complete sense to me. If "God" is silence, aren't we already one with it...before thought? Is not every thought a limitation? Even the highest and purest thought?

Thanks, LK! I'll try to catch it Monday.

I know what you mean about turning off the thoughts. I think I've gotten a little better at it with practice. When I catch myself living in the future (and sometimes I'll do it for hours before I notice ), I try to bring myself back to Here/Now. Focusing on the breath works for me sometimes, too.

p.s. Next time you go to the book store, pick up a copy of The Power of Now and read a couple excerpts from it. It was so helpful to me - infact a day or two after I finished it, my daughter commented that I seemed different, really peaceful. That was a real confirmation.

Viv - How did you figure out the "no thought" thing? I don't think I would have known on my own had it not been for books like this one.

That's great about seeing Tolle's book next to the candy. What is it about books??! I've had so many similar things happen to me.

There were a lot of pointers. but I did not get it. I think it started with Jesus appearing to me and saying:"Keep things simple". The statement:"Be still and know that I am God". Everyone has heard that before, but we just did not "think" about what that really means. I noticed people healing around me, without me doing anything. Joel Goldsmith teaching to go into "oneness" with God, through meditation or prayer for healing to come through, God saying to me I am closer than you "think" and finally waking up one day Feeling Joyful and in bliss.....but having no thoughts, Ideas concepts in my head. I looked around me but no thoughts formed in head. It's amazing, it's like a new world opened up to me. I don't think I did anything to make it happen...it just happened oneday : ) After that I saw "no thought" everywhere in the Masters teachings. Jesus said two things that point in that direction 1) Take no thought for your life, for your body, what you will eat or wear or for tomorrow, those things will be taken care for. 2) Do not judge according to the appearance of things.

Now Tolle is saying the same thing, just using other words. He says not to "label" things and to experience them without the filter of concepts and beliefs. He speaks of silence, being in the presense and stilling the mind.

One way to still your mind is to ask yourself, "what is my next thought?" Try it it works. The mind goes, HUH?

At the grocery store where I shop, there is a woman who sings constantly, while she works. I have NEVER heard her not singing. What are everyone's thoughts about what state of consciousness she might be in.

I personally am bothered by it, because she isn't singing the same thing that is on the store loudspeaker and I like peace and quiet.
