The first says Love, and the second says Tao.

Sorry, MV, the leftmost dot of "love" is way too low. It belongs to the horizontal stroke separating the fist/claw part from the heart. To my eyes, the rightmost dot of the heart should be more to the right, and i'm not quite happy with the bottom part. Compare 愛

To my Western eyes, it is also obvious that the Dao is written by a Westerner. The downstroke from the top right to the rectangle should aim more at the left side of the rectangle, and the horizontals in that rectangle should be more evenly spaced. 道.

Criticism aside, I must admit that your efforts are much nicer than any of mine.

I know that I made mistakes. It's hard. I wanted to do the Tao more like running script, but it didn't work out too well. I was also disappointed with the spacing of the two horizontal lines, but I was really happy with the long right falling stroke. So I decided to mat that one.

And I'm sure your efforts are better than mine. I have only been practicing the art for a few years. I would love if you critiqued all of my calligraphy.

Even more difficult might be http://140.111.1.40/, but it has a wealth of information on variant characters. You there have to force Big5 encoding in your browser.

I thought it should be called Han Zi? Haha...

The majority of Kanji (originally Chinese characters used for Japanese) are identical with Hanzi.

Yeah I know but since I am a Chinese, I feel it is kind of weird to be referred to as Kanji. But I am all okay..
