Are people really that stupid?
I'm trying to figure out if this has something to do with too many lawyers with too little to do, or just stupidity in general.
I'm baking a frozen pizza right now. It came inside a cardboard box. Once I took it out of the box, it was sealed inside a heavy plastic wrapper. So far, so good. The cooking instructions were easy to find, and very easy to understand. But here's the part I referred to at the beginning: is it truly necessary to put a WARNING LABEL, in big, red letters, telling you to take the plastic wrapper off and throw it away before you bake the pizza? Are people truly that stupid? I also bought a pecan roll at the store this weekend. It had a Food Allergy Warning printed on it: This Product May Contain Nuts. Well, I hope to shout! It's a pecan roll. Isn't that why people buy them in the first place? Because they have nuts? If I bought a pecan roll that didn't have nuts, I think I'd have a pretty good truth-in-labeling case, no? Or am I way off base, and missing something terribly obvious?

I bought a frozen Tiramisu once and brought it home. I looked on the top for directions, then looked on all 4 side panels. Finally, I turned it over and looked at the bottom. There, in big bold letters, it said, "Do Not Turn Box Upside Down." The preparation instructions were inside the box. I also once saw a Japanese product with the warning, "Caution: Do not use for the other purpose."

This morning I opened the microwave to heat something up, and there was a package of instant oatmeal inside... Now my Daughter is a blonde, but she's not that dumb! Come to find out, it was a joke. She has my same warped sense of humor... Roger "Doc". ![]() |

Personally, I think it has more to do with the sue-happy society that we live in. I mean, a woman sued McD's for hot coffee. Isn't coffee supposed to be hot, unless it is specifically called iced? What about the parents that are suing because they did not install their child's car seat properly? I mean, it is their fault. Since we can sue anyone for any reason, including our own stupidity, then everything needs to be labeled in order to protect ourselves from being sued. But then that begs the question, if you don't read the warnings, can you still sue? Does it really protect a company to put those words on a box?

Yeah, and now they're saying warnings on cigarette packs are not enough warning. What do they want, a pic of cancer ridden lungs on every pack of cigs?

Does that give one the wherewithal to open the bag in the store before buying to participate in the contest???
