To Know Yourself Is To Know God

I did a search on this statement and found it attributed to Jesus, Joseph Smith and Judaism. What do you suppose the true meaning is of "To know yourself is to know God" is?

It's also in taoism. We can know the ways of the world, and of Tao, by simply knowing ourselves. In actuality, for a taoist, the knowledge of one's self is the most important knowledge of all. For if we don't know ourself, we can never fully know anything else.

I think it may have to deal with existence. In other words I exist, you exist, to know that I exist means that somehow somewhere there was an entity who first came into existence and this first BEing who came into existence must be GOD. Our existence may go a long way to PROVING that there is a GOD because if we exist, there must have been an entity who existed first.

Dear Lightkeeper

As above so below.

When one truly knows the self one finds God and the secrets of the universe.

I love this Sufi quote and so apt for myself.

I was searching for the self and I found God and when I found God I found the self.

Hence why Jesus kept saying 'seek and you shall find' he did not mean seek outside of self but seek within.

For God is in your heart.

Love beyond measure

Surely the title i gave would suffice as to the true meaning of the quote.

Who is "you"? Thats your soul. God wants you to look at your soul. And what else would you want to look at everything else vanishes. What we do take with us is " in" our souls, that is our spiritual growth. Spiritual growth we can take with us when we leave our body.

If you know God you are with God, actually you are god (small g ) each of us has a buddha in ourselves.

The best way i to, know thyself, is to meditate, that way slowly you get rid of self/ego and is replaced by God. When you meditate you are actually looking at your soul.

O SON OF SPIRIT! I created thee rich, why dost thou bring thyself down to poverty? Noble I made thee, wherewith dost thou abase thyself? Out of the essence of knowledge I gave thee being, why seekest thou enlightenment from anyone beside Me? Out of the clay of love I molded thee, how dost thou busy thyself with another? Turn thy sight unto thyself, that thou mayest find Me standing within thee, mighty, powerful and self-subsisting.

As a Panendeist, I believe that we are all parts of god like atoms in a body. By knowing ourselves we can know at least one very small part of god.

Fortuna has a spectacular aura aboutFortuna has a spectacular aura about
Arrow Know Thyself.

Hi All !

These are just a few proverbs from various Egyptian Temples. I think you will find that this axiom was realized much earlier than any of the three major religions.

• The kingdom of heaven is within you; and whosoever shall know himself shall find it.
• The body is the house of God. That is why it is said, "Man know thyself."
• A man's heart is his own Neter (God).
• Man, know thyself ... and thou shalt know the gods (or God).

Blessings, Fortuna

That is a hard one.

When we think we know ourselves we really only know ego.
When we get beyond the masks we wear and get to the stillness , quite our thoughts etc, then we reach a place of Peace.
Perhaps this feeling of peace is knowing God . This sense of peace feels timeless.
