Quality

Some of us are born with blue eyes. Others are broad shouldered. Some of us are tall. Some have dark hair or skin. All physical features. All determined before our birth. But there are other qualities. Inner qualities. More . . . intangible traits if you will.

I believe that humans are born with the capacity for the discernment of good and evil. This criterion is natural, inborn. It is the human instinct. We cannot build nests or navigate through the seasons and clouds or fight mighty stream currents to the place of our birth but we know good from evil.

This criterion makes possible the differentiation between good and evil qualities, virtue and vice. Now, the question I would like to raise is....

What are these qualities? What are the virtues? What are the vices? And where are they explicated in Scripture? (Or for those who recognize no authoritative canon, How do we become aware of thier existence?)

I'm not sure if it is a descernment between "good" and "evil", but a knowing of what is helpful, beneficial, or in other words "positive" and what is not. This is innate in all living things, and is necessary for survival. I don't believe "goodness" is inherent because one of the first things babies learn to do is lie. I believe "good" and "evil" are concepts that are taught to children by society. But that is just my opinion.
