Anybody here use these little computers.
I have a Palm T3, have had it quite a while, but admit that it has not really become the invaulable tool I thought it would. If I lost it tomorrow my life would not be disrupted to the point of panic. Which one do you have ? What do you use it for ? Do you use it to it's full extent ? Do you use it fro Sat Nav too ? If this is in the wrong section please move it.

Clearly PDAs have not made it elsewhere eh ?
...I suppose you guys in the US still use Filofaxes eh ? (can you detect a soupcon of goading ?) However, I don't suppose I expected a veritable onslaught of so many replies that I'd have to stop time so that I could read them all ! (buzz buzz..irritating warbling alarm noise).........Oh !!!...gotta go...My PDA is telling me to ' move on '

I have a Palm T3 it's ok, but not really a biggie in my life either....mostly use it because some reading testing is built into it for school. I do keep a few numbers in the contact list that I sometimes need at school. I used to play games on it all the time, but got tired of them.

My PalmPilot and my library
I've been using a PalmPilot for some 8 years so far. Been through several models. At one point, I had so much of my life on my Palm that when I was in roll-over accident in my truck, I wouldn't let them put me into the ambulance until one of the firemen got my Palm from the truck and put it into my hand.
One of my responsibilities at work (we sell & service RVs) is to make sure that brand-new RVs scheduled for delivery are ready to go. I keep track of the details in a database on my Palm. I designed the database myself, as there wasn't anything out there that fit my need. And living in my own 28-foot travel trailer, I have no spac for books. At the same time, I'm an avid reader. So from time to time I visit Project Guternberg, download a few books and transfer them to my Palm. Much more comfortable than my laptop for reading in bed. With a 512Mb memory card, I can store a lot of books.

I've already too many gadgets that I don't use to their full extent, including a 30 GB iPod meant for travel storage of digital photos only. To download a(nother) useful Chinese-English dictionary, I've enquired on an HP palm thingy. Suspended, because I'm now now more into Hindi.
I don't need the PDA planner functions. For me, days are like Translate. If no translations jobs, then study languages. If anything else, mother (90!!!) will remind me. Works perfectly for both of us. |

Update to my original reply:
I still use my Palm, and it's probably the main reason I still run Windows on on of my computers: regardless of what you may have heard, Linux applications for talking to PalmPilots are not only few and far between (I think there is a whopping total of 3), but I haven't had any success in getting any of them to work. They all seem to be doing what they're supposed to, and none of them give any error messages, but none of them actually transfer any data between my Palm and my laptop. <sigh> Were it not for that, I wouldn't need Windows at all anymore. Oh, except for Windows Live Writer, probably the best blogging tool I've seen.

Quote:
You should be aware of the Y2K7 problem - there are updates to deal with changes in Daylight Savings time dates. Not fixing them could lead to login problems on the internet and other more trivial things like times being wrong on emails and etc. It's a bigger issue in institutional situations where controls exist between servers and client machines but the home user should be aware as well (note there are updates for some Palm and Windows OSes as well as a long list of other systems.) You can check wikipedia for Y2K7 or search the internet.... :-)
