Dreams For Sale

Dreams For Sale
by Charles Nunnelly

Say mister, would you like to buy a dream?

They’re only 10 cents each or three for a quarter.

Most are fresh and new, no bruises anywhere.

I planted and grew them myself,

Even harvested under a full moon.

You won’t find dreams better than these anywhere.

When you bite into them they taste like nectar

And the juice will run down your chin.

Why, for this price you could buy a dozen

And they keep forever, never spoil.

I guess I grow the best dreams in the county,

Maybe even the state.

If I entered them in the fair

I’ll bet they would win “Best of the show.”

They’re the biggest and prettiest dreams you ever saw.

Sold one yesterday to a man

That had eaten all sorts of dreams.

He was reluctant at first and pushed me away

But I gave him one free just for the taste.

You should have seen his smile when he bit into it.

Well, after that he bought a dozen

And told me to come to his house

Every time I picked a new batch.

He’ll be a good customer now I suspect,

Even wants some for his wife and kids.

Children like them best

But I have sold some to both men and women,

Young and old. Next to children, old people

Like them a lot and then young men.

For some reason girls and women don’t buy much.

I suppose dreams just don’t fit their fancy,

Never been able to figure that out.

I’ve even put them in pretty wrappings

But they just look them all over,

Pinch and poke, then turn up their nose.

Do I eat them myself? Well, I used to eat a lot

But they don’t agree with me anymore.

Some kind of allergy to all those dreams.

They even give me hives sometimes, make me itch all over.

It has been a long time since I tasted a good dream myself.

Love2 Where Fantasies Were Sold;

The poem by Charles Nunnelly, made me think of my own poem thats kinda on the same subject as the one above...

By CJ 2005

Where fantsies were sold,
How wonderful a place it was,
Everywhere you could look
Reality was nowhere near,
Enjoying whatever you dreamed.

Fun was all over the place,
As long as you could afford it
Nothing was denied your every wish.
To have every desire of your heart
And hide from reality,
So pain could not come near,
Into your comfortable space.
Every night you drown in blissfulness,
Sold the longings of your thoughts.

Why would you ever wanna leave?
Everything you ever wanted in sight.
Right here at your pretty feet.
Enjoyment for your lonely soul.
Sold your fantasies,
Only to escape reality
Long gone from your view,
Delayed from your actual life.
