I've read a theory that stems from the idea there are two "flows" of spirituality. One flows from heaven to earth and is considered "eminent" and "feminine" and is the reason many early cultures revered the "Earth Mother".

The other flows from earth towards heaven and is considered "transcendent" and "masculine" and where we get the concept of "Heavenly Father".

Now, both genders are able to embrace either flow, but the eminent flow is more easily identified for women and the transcendent flow is more easily identified for men.

Of course, in a non-dual pursuit, one should be able to embrace both flows until there is no separation of ascending and decending.

Building on this theory is also the idea that our gross, subtle and causal minds could have either a masculine or feminine center. The gross mind is most often identified with the sex of the person, but not always. So a man could have a masculine gross mind, a feminine subtle mind, and a masculine causal mind, or any combonation thereof, including all masculine or all feminine.
