The Wise Man

... ``follow me,'' the wise man said, but he walked behind...

Is this wisdom?

It reminds me of something my zen teacher told me once. You see an old man, and a young boy. But if you are a buddha, you do not see one as future, or one as past. You see a mountain and you see a valley. But if you are a buddha, you do not see one as high, and the other low.

From this, I think that if a wise man says "follow me." It is wrong to see the wise man walking in front, as it is wrong to see the follower walking behind.

On another note: If I am walking behind you, I am also in front of you, just VERY VERY in front.

I met a man who lost his mind
in some lost place I had to find,
follow me the wise man said,
but he walked behind.

If you walk behind a person they can't follow you, they have to find their own way.

I think it very wise to let others find their own way! Very few learn from others. We all have to live and learn.

This can also be taken to mean "follow my example". This would be a very valid point. No one person is "better" than another, regarless of their position.
