I think that most of our concept of right and wrong comes from our sense of empathy. Empathy is the essence behind the Golden Rule. It is universal and I believe that it is natural. I think that empathy is part of being human; it is part of our genome. It does not need to be taught.

Actually, there have been no studies that prove the "wolf-boy" or "Tarzan" scenario ever produces a human with a conscience about right and wrong. Their cognitive functions never develop past primal need. In Spiral Dynamics, it is known as BEIGE value meme. It is only after continued social interaction that we begin to learn these consciousness developments. Its just that we have now streamlined the process to where it appears a natural development.
