He's a legend in his own mind. But isn't that what people want thses days? Pablum? Simplistic, simple-minded solutions to everything? Got a headache? Take this pill. Got a stomach ache? Take this pill. Got a severe psychological disturbance? Take this pill and read this book. We live in a TV culture, where a murder can be committed, the crime solved, a suspect arrested, a triaL held and a sentence rendered, all in an hour (minus time for commercials). We can go to the store and buy a complete meal that is ready to eat after 3 minutes in the microwave. No wonder we're such suckers for easy fixes to personal problems. I went to the bookstore the other day. I asked the clerk where the self-help section was. She said she could show me, but that would defeat the purpose.
