Hypocrisy
How do you deal with hypocrisy that you observe within yourself? Within your local community? Your country? Your world?
Do you think of hypocrisy as a good thing, a bad thing, or more or less a neutral thing? |

At first I wanted to jump on this question with the mindset that hypocrisy is a disconnect between one’s words and deeds. But looking it up, hypocrisy is a feigning to be what one is not. The root is from Greek hypokrisis act of playing a part on the stage.
In our modern society most of us go into the market place we call culture and select a religion, political persuasion, philosophical ideology, life style, sexual orientation, music, style of dress, food preferences, identifying possessions such as a home and type, and even color of car. After selecting all of these attributes from off the self we have created a unique identity for ourselves and then we go off to play that unique character on the stage of life. There maybe a few who do not act at all, who are just truly themselves but for most of us, our lives are just one act after another of hypocrisy. |

We tend to keep a lot of things hidden and that would be hypocrisy. I wonder what it would be like on an average day if everyone decided to be completely themselves. We are so used to dealing with hypocrisy that we might not be able to deal with the real thing.
