I would hope that nobody will listen to him (ever), but I know people do (and I know people that do
). Does anyone else see a similarity to the caste system?Oh, and I forgot to say that I am not shocked in the least bit at his attitude, once a hateful bigot, always a hateful bigot.

Rather reminds me of a red herring (using cold war terminology). It doesn't stand up, logically. I mean, lets say that Dell supports lesbian rights. Note that I don't KNOW that they do, I'm just using this for argument. In what way does that make their electronics and computers unusable? If every worker in one of their computer factories was a lesbian, is there going to be some way that a consumer, even a very very careful and anti-gay consumer, is going to be able to tell the difference? Is it going to somehow change their lives if they buy a dell computer? This is an example of going deep end on a topic and associating the topic to something it has nothing to do with. This is also one area that I would disagree with a few prominent republicans about, and I don't believe that they can honestly defend that stance. |

Question, Sci, do you not think that bigotry is something that is learned, and if so, that it can also be un-learned? If so, maybe I wouldn't say once a bigot, always a bigot, but rather once a bigot, always a bigot until and unless the person is enlightened. (Which we can only hope for, in his case.)

Rev Rex, I was just using it as a figure of speech really. In Dobson's case change seems very unlikely. I do think that bigotry is learned. and a person can stop being a bigot, but I wouldn't say it is "un-learned," but you see it for what it really is, hating people for being different, and you realize just how rediculous it is.
We can hope for him to change, but a more realistic thing to hope for is for him to just disappear from the media.

Condemning "Corporate America" because some companies have policies with which you don't agree would be similar to condemning Christianity because of Dobson's ravings and rantings. I have a very dear friend who was once accused of "recruiting for the lesbians," to which she replied, "That's exactly what I'm doing. If I can get 3 more, I'll win a microwave and a blender!" I think that hatred and hostility, bigotry and ignorance do more to promote what you're protesting than to slow or stop it.
