A quiet place

This question is spawned by another thread. Most everyone will agree that today's world is confused, fast paced, hectic, and a bit chaotic. The question I have is this; Do you have a personal quiet place - a place where you can go to relax and be alone with your thought?

If you do, how often do you go there, and how often would you like to go there?

I have several quiet places; one is in front of my altar in my living room, which is only useable if I'm the only one in the house. Another is a semi-permanent medicine wheel in the back yard (under a foot of snow at the moment, though that single patch is 'almost' melted off), and two more are located out in the woods in specific spots. I don't feel that I get out to those last two spots nearly often enough, and average about once every three weeks in the summer, but almost never in the winter.

Hmmm...a quiet place. I can almost hear Brian Wilson singing,

"There's a place where I can go and tell my troubles to
In my room..."

Or John Lennon:

"There's a place
Where I can go
When I feel low
When I feel blue."

It seems to be a pretty common need for all of us. For me, sometimes it's a walk along the banks of the American River, or a hike through the redwoods. But most often, it's just a matter of going somewhere, anywhere, with my camera. When I'm taking pictures, I'm in another world.

Oh, yeah: www.interfaithforums.com is a great place for relaxing and centering!

Actually, it's not quiet but on the riding lawnmower is a great place for me to think, etc. I also truly love my bedroom and find it calming and soothing for thought, downtime or whatever.

SMKolins is on a distinguished road
I agree - there is quiet and there is meditation, and the two don't have to be the same. Moving or stillness can each be that quiet place.

I go there sometimes, perhaps daily. But going there is ... also disengaging. And the point seems to be to remain engaged. In the world but not of it.

Hey hey hey, great answer. That's wonderful news that you find this a place for relaxing and centering. That's the goal. I can hear "In My Room" in my head now.

I walk a lot. I also love to go out with my camera and capture the beauty of the Northwest. Beachcombing and rockhunting are also things I like to do to be in a quiet place;.

My quiet place is my home computer, early in the morning. I keep the sound turned off.
