If Abortion Was Outlawed

If abortion was outlawed do you think there would be fewer unwanted pregnancies? Would people take more precautions?

There will always be (at least in Europe) a country close enough that honours a woman's free choice in matters of her body.

Making abortions illegal would just increase the number of deaths due to non-professional attempts.

I agree with Luguber. No one thinks “it’s ok if I have unprotected sex, I can just go get an abortion”. The fact is many people just don’t think at all, and no law has the power to change that. If abortion is illegal, then women will get illegal abortions.

Ludicrous isn't it, that with all of the methods to prevent unwanted pregnancy, abstinence being the best way, people still fall victim to the power of their passions. The same could be said for the spread of AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases.

It makes no difference if abortion is legal or not. When someone is in the grips of passion, the consequences of their actions are the last thing on their mind. It is always better to think about the consequences and discuss them before hand and plan for the situation when the mind is clear. Sexual passion is a powerful thing.

If men got pregnant, abortion would be a sacrament.

No, I don't think there would be a siginificant change, except in the number of babies perhaps neglected, put up for adoption (which is not a bad thing, coming from an adopted child concieved in an accidental pregnancy), and otherwise left in the poverty level, etc. The other forms of pregnancy prevention would still be available, and the same accuracy rates would prevail.

all that you would do would be to put the lives of innocent women at risk because they would find away to abort the baby that would probably kill them in the process.

not necessarily, despite the fact that we have one of the best education systems (if used properly and to its fullest capacity...so im using 'best' loosely), have numerous forms of sexual education from schools to clinics to even television as well as support groups like family friends and the community the abortion rate likely would not go down if it were outlawed. It was before and there were still abortions going on.
As for 'passions' there are instances were the woman still does get pregnant even though all the precautions are taken...and not all unwanted pregnancies are necessarily undergone by single unmarried teen age girls. I personally had a condom break and went in the next morning and took 'the morning after pill' which basicaly equates to taking something like 4 birth control pills in a day. Im not your typical abortion client. College educated, full time job, monogamous relationship, I could go on but it might be futile.

back to the topic at hand...it may for the short term cut down on the number of abortions but once ladies find someone to help them out it wouldnt make a difference other than the major point that was brought up earlier being that all those women possibly dying from botched procedures.

I don't think that outlawing abortions would have any effect on unwanted pregnancies. In fact, at one time in this country, most abortions were illegal. The number of unwanted children didn't appreciably change when they legalized it.

They'd be chaos and protestations if abortions were outlawed.

They'd be chaos , anguish and desperation as a latter consequence.

People would not take more precautions, but maybe more people would take precautions !....maybe.
