Smoking bans

What do you think about the cities that are trying to pass bans on smoking in public places, such as restaurants, bars, etc? Some of them have done so, others have defeated them. Is it an infringment to ban smoking? Is it an infringement to allow smoking?

As a non smoker I applaud the action to ban smoking.

There is nothing I hate more than to go to a restaurant only to have the people on the next table light up continuously. Though at the same time I would also defend their right to smoke but provisionally.....That they smoke in a designated smoking area, which should be every bit as nice as the non smoking area.

If I find that a place does not segregate smokers from non smokers then i just simple won't go there. Why should my children breath that in ?...and, it just plainly ruins the taste and flavour.

The bottom line, it is the non smoker who is being forced to breathe in their smoke, not the other way round.

I don't think smoking should be banned, but if smokers want to smoke then allow them to smoke in a smoking area.

If it's something like a theatre or an auditorium then management of the areas can still be organised.

If all this sounds like it's the smokers are being shoved around then I would be happy to move into designated non smoking areas.

Even during all those years that I smoked, I would have welcomed such a ban.

Now we have it, and most people seem to be happy or at least accepting it.

We have had a ban here in Washington where the smoker has to be 25 feet away from a building. That puts most people in the middle of the street in the city.
