Polygamy !

Greets Interfaith Peeps,

I know there are a few threads about Polygamy but I have a new question.

If someone is coming (immigrating) from somewhere where Polygamy is the done thing, in that it's a perfectly legal and accepted practise (practice ?) , would it be correct to accept that person and their many spouses into your society (which is non polygamous) ? or would it be expected that they should acquiesce and reduce the numbers to two ?

Your comments would be appreciated.

As we have been reminded, ad nauseum, by GWB and Falwell and Robertson and whoever else can get airtime, a marriage in the USA (except in Massachusetts) is defined as being between 1 man and 1 woman. There are in a couple of states, civil unions or registered domestic partnerships that might allow such a thing, but I haven't read them. So, the short answer, in America, is these people would not be looked up on as legally related in a group marriage.
