That is a tricky question to answer for me, but a good one Nick. First of all I believe love as we experience it as human beings, is different from "God's" love. For that "love" I use the words unconditional Love.
God is all there IS. In the physical realm "God" can be experienced as the divine trinity (the father, the son and the holy spirit) as Love, Peace and Joy. I have encountered on my spiritual path at times a strong feeling of Love or Joy or Peace, without any appearant reason. It came and went at will. Then I started to feel bliss, in this bliss Love, Peace and Joy no longer existed separated from each other. It became one...bliss. So no, Love and Joy are not the same and yes they are the same, in a bigger picture. In Truth there is no Love without Joy and Peace, nor Peace without Love and Joy, nor Joy without Love and Peace.

In the context of ACIM, this statement is true.
In the context of our physical experiences, the illusion of joy can thrive in the total absence of love. The physical or material world experience of love, on the other hand, should include joy as part of the experience.
