It seems to me children would be a lot better off if they were with their parents and not babysitters. Some how we should figure out ways that a child is 98% of the time with parents. Do we pay more attention to having things than we do to nurturing our children?

I tried to do the stay at home mom thing. One, I was going stir crazy. I am just not suited to being without something outside of the home to do. And two, we were sinking into debt and bankruptcy. We needed the additional income. I guess it just depends on where you are in your life.

Why not just have the men stay home with the kids and let the women go off to work? Wait a minute, breast feeding could be a problem. Hmmmm.
Let me think this out a bit more, OK?

Yes, Metis you have a point. That is why I asked Women or Mothers? Women should have equal rights, Job opportunities and pay. But there are somethings like having your period, being pregnant, giving Birth and breast feeding that only a women can do and which separates a women from a man.
Why should a women have to worry about bills while giving birth? Society does not recongize a womens role/value. Society recongizes only education, what about life experience or need? I think a single mother should get paid more for having children. I also feel that an older person with more life experience should earn more. These catagories are not even being considered in society. Rev. Kelly, I see nothing "wrong" with you working and with your son being with a baby sitter. There is only something wrong, if you feel there is something wrong and you are stressed out. I have something only against society not valuing a mother as a working women. With other words, if you have a fulltime job, why should you have to take on another one (not you personally)?

In Sweden, after a baby is borne, the mother gets 1 full year off with pay and the father gets 2 months off although, if my memory is correct, they can switch it around.

In Germany (when I lived there) parents (father or mother) got paid 3 years and were supported by the state till they were 6 years old, plus everyone gets Child support from the state till a child is 18 years old, independent of income.
I love that Germany gave the same opportunity to men as women. Most people that took the opportunity devided the time: first 1 1/2 years the mother (because of breast feeding) and then 1 1/2 the father. I do believe strongly in parenting a child at home. To many people plan to have a baby and don't plan in the option of staying home. That is sad. Why have children if you are not going to raise them? There are many ways to make that possible, such as work from home, take in additional kids, start your own home based buisness. Also cutting down on expenses, such as cable T.V., eliminating cell phone, stop yard or pool service and stop eating out. Sometimes ones thinking has to adjust to buying clothes in thrift stores or at garage sales. It is possible and it is so satisfing. We are building our childrens memories now. This is a time we will NEVER get back.

It doesn't matter which of the parents stay at home, (except for the breast feeding bit) but we were all much healthier families when the economy and family units could be regulated by single income households.
