I think new things do arise from old things. For example, gorillas, chimps, and humans all had common ancestors, but I think all 3 species were new when they arrived. We have some genetically engineered creatures now which could never have arisen in nature, so it is reasonable to assume that if we put firefly genes in a mouse to make glowing mouse babies, we probably are creating something new, for better or for worse. New things do not seem to arise spontaneously at this point in time. They seem to evolve, mutate, or otherwise arise from existing ones. If the universe did have a beginning before which nothing at all existed, then of course there was some point at which everything was new.
New philosophies appear to be rather rare, though.

I agree. There is nothing new under the moon, unless we consider a new way of doing....something new.
Something truly new would be a number that has a different value then the one know to us. Or a new color that is not a combination of any colors we know....like blinkata a mixture between equifect and bublina. Clothes you don't wear nor eat, but step on is called tinkana. Purpose? No idea, the need does not exist yet. Maybe that is why there is nothing new under the moon: Do our needs really change?

just curious
Vivian...you stated...Quote:
is there a reason you chose the word moon instead of the word that was used sun....if so could you elaborate... i for one dont feel there is anything new..even the new creatures persay that we create through science...they came from what we had or have...and just mix it up to appear new...so new looking new form but exsisting stuff...nothing i feel comes from any of us...that did not come in...get shook up and dumped out ...it often i feel just appears different because of our own walk in life...so we then take the experiences and share them...and now we have new bits and pieces ...and yet i rethink it and say it is not info that came in...but was always with in....and we now share it and are awed by the diverseness of it all.... |

The reality appears to be that everything is new under the sun, including the sun itself. IOW, everything appears to be in a constant state of change, including you and I. Are you the same as you were 5 years ago? 15 years ago? And some of us can even go back a "bit" further.

I agree Metis, everything is always in a state of change so everything is always new. Looking at it another way even if something although slightly changed in someway has been there for a long time, if someone hasn't seen it before it is new to them,
. I also believe as creators we are constantly creating new things yet to be discovered. ![]()
