The Cricket And The Weed-Wacker

A friend was meditating in a garden last night. He became aware of the many sounds around him. He heard a cricket and a weed-wacker.

Are both sounds, sounds of nature? Is one sound more spiritual than the other?

a weed wacker...WHAT....a weed wacker around here is what we refer to as a weed eater...is that what your asking about...if it is in comparison to the cricket and nature...hmm...only for me in the respect that the weed wacker is cutting down nature...

Some think that to be a shaman you must go out into the wilderness to attune oneself to nature and spirit.
Nothing wrong with that.
If you think you have been spending too much time in the city and your attention is unfocussed, maybe you should leave it for a bit to clear the head and get in touch with your earthly roots.
But people and the artifacts they create are also a part of nature.
A part of the world just like every other living thing.
So how can you be in tune with nature without being in tune with people too?
It's OK to go to the wilderness.
Go wherever you want.
Nature is everywhere.
It infuses everything, surrounds everything.
If you want to truly know nature, you have to experience nature in all its aspects, not just the parts you like.
You have to hear the cry of the hawk as it dives down to kill a mouse.
You have to hear the roar of the bear when one of her cubs comes up missing.
You have to listen to the murmuring of the mountain stream, the wind sighing through the trees, the hiss of the snake, the death-cry of the prairie-dog, the croaking of the frog, the rustle of leaves and tall grasses, the song of the cricket and the lumberjacks chainsaw.
Maybe the lawn trimmers as well.
You have to hear the voice of the Earth, no matter what form it takes.
Maybe every form it takes.

are all sounds not what we make them?

and are all sounds different according to how we are feeling?

a baby crying can be soothing and prescious or it can drive you crazy ...depends the day you are having ...

birds can be soothing and peacful to listen to...less your trying to sleep and the am sounds like a rain forest...

if you are relaxing and hearing the sound of the cricket and and also the weed eater...you would i feel feel peace at them both...but if you were trying to read a book and are one to be botherd by noises then it may not be spiritual at all...and you could be listening to the cricket and feel upset that your taking in the sound of the critter is interupted by a modern noise...then you could be hearing the cricket and then the sound of the weed eater and feel very at peace because you now are also taking into the account that while your on your peacful expeirence there now is another human involved and you could end up smiling at this thought...so the answer...there was a question wasnt there...well yes..and no....yes and no....
