My wife was born and raised in Italy, which we have visited and stayed with her relatives, and I don't think their laws are necessarily any stranger than some of our laws. Actually the biggest problem in Italy more deals with law enforcement since police work is often quite shoddy-- and I'm rather understating this. Buying off police and politicians isn't all that difficult. Here in the States we legalize it and call them "lobbyists" .

In Portsmouth NH there is law on the books from the 1600's that is archaic. There is to be no hand holding in Prescott Park on Sundays.
