Be very careful when you vacation in Italy. You can be fined for the most bizarre stuff. No sandcastles please, you're in Italy - Yahoo! News

My wife was born and raised in Italy, which we have visited and stayed with her relatives, and I don't think their laws are necessarily any stranger than some of our laws. Actually the biggest problem in Italy more deals with law enforcement since police work is often quite shoddy-- and I'm rather understating this. Buying off police and politicians isn't all that difficult. Here in the States we legalize it and call them "lobbyists" .

In Portsmouth NH there is law on the books from the 1600's that is archaic. There is to be no hand holding in Prescott Park on Sundays.
You also cannot pick seaweed after dark or before dawn.
