Three icons gone this week. RIP to all three. Now there is talk that Jeff Goldblum died today.

I pray for their families and friends. It is hard to say goodbye.

to hear about his death.

I thought Micheal Jackson was immortal.

He is, as are we all. The embodied form has simply fallen away, as all forms are wont to do.

Fortunately for all the sci fi bums (myself included) Jeff has not died.

Cronkite is said to be gravely ill.

There was one image which stood out to me. I was walking past the TV when they showed the live shot of Jackson's body being carried in a body bag from UCLA to the helicopter for transport to the coroner's office. It was sobering to see the "kind of pop" carried in a plain white bag like a sack of potatoes. His remains looked so slight on the stretcher. Dust to dust, ashes to ashes.

I remember the last performance of Warren Zevon on Letterman when he had weeks left to live with mesothelioma, and Letterman asked him something to the effect of did he think he knew something more than the rest of us since he was dying, and Zevon said that he knew now the importance of "enjoying every sandwich".

We aren't here for long, are we? And the famous and the rich are carried out in the same colored body bags as unidentified street people. The money and fame are suddenly irrelevant, and the question becomes, what is?

In the end, nothing really matters. It doesn't matter how much money you had, what car you drove, what your job was, what clothes you wore. What matters is the lives you touched while you were alive.

What happens after death? I don't know, I don't think anyone does. No one has ever died and came back from it. Did Joe Schoe wake up on the operating table and go "wow there's a heaven...and blah blah blah", but who really knows? It's his word against ours. And he has no proof, just his word.

I personally loved Thriller, and it remains both a classic and something of Michael Jackson's that I loved and still love.

Billy Mayes from Pitchmen and the Oxy Clean commercials passed today.

I know! I just read about it! Everyone's dyin' in Hollywood it seems lately.

I'm more sad over Billy Mays than Michael Jackson. I was starting to enjoy seeing him in his trademark blue shirt and full beard yelling on about Oxyclean. :P

RIP Billy Mays, maybe you can sell some more stuff where you're at.
