Music

I've long contended that spiritual people tend to be musically inclined, and very lax questions I've asked in the past tend to support this in a big way. This has nothing really to do with my question for our fine members, though. My question is this:

For those who play musical instruments, regardless of skill level, what genre of music do you usually play?

Personally, I play country, pop, rock, folk, new age, some light jazz, some big band, some celtic (mostly irish and scottish), Christian classic, and 2 honky-tonk songs.

I do not have any prejudices against any kinds of music but there are some I prefer playing and some I prefer listening to. I have played covers of rock tunes mostly in bands and towards the end of that career I played country which was fun. If given the chance to branch out or become involved with other musicians who enjoyed other kinds of music than I have posted I have no doubt that I would fall right in line.

I like both kinds of music: country and western.

Seriously, though, my tastes are nothing if not eclectic. Opening my CD binder at random would find Clannad filed next to Leonard Cohen, right after ZZ Top, but before Bob Wills.

James Brown is in there, right next to the Miracles and the Four Tops. Buckwheat Zydeco and Marcia Ball coexist peacefully with John Serri, Enya, and the Beatles.

Dylan, Cohen, Phil Ochs figure heavily in my guitar repertoire.

I play the piano (really, really not well!). I'm the boring guy who plays nothing but classical, largely including Beethoven Bach, Debussy, Chopin, and a great (musically) American gentleman from Louisanna, Louis Moreau Gottschalk.

Actually, Gottschalk prefigures Scott Joplin beautifully, and it's worth listening to his music sequentially as he develops various Caribbean themes and moves inevitably towards ragtime.
