I suspect that this is very subjective. I've seen pictures of some places in England that look beautiful, cheerful, interesting, and romantic. I see none of that in the area of the US where I live, and yet I was told about 2 months ago by some swedes that came to see Crater Lake National Park, that this whole area is beautiful and romantic. I guess that the familiar is never as interesting as something we don't actually know well.

I have a guilty confession to make. I never did understand the concept of soap operas and I was always very swift to belittle those who were involved in watching them. The prodding storylines, the drawn out characterizations, the unbelievable situations and the tiresome romances, the formulaic pacing, the teasing cliffhangers were all very irrelevant to me. Then, something happened.

For most of my years, I was always a comic book fan. Now for many of you who are not familiar with these pamphlets, they are monthly magazines, about 22 pages long (32 pages including the ads), have prodding storylines, have drawn out characterizations (dressed in tights nonetheless), have unbelievable situations and include tiresome romances (superheroes need love too) , are written with formulaic pacing and enjoy being concluded with teasing cliffhangers (30 days until next edition. That’s a whole month you know!). So stepping away from myself, I noticed that comic books could be considered as “my stories” as well. I guess the important lesson here is……

That comic book readers should collect their comics 10 months in advance before reading them to avoid forgetting the past storylines and having to wait 30 days before every issue.
