Can I do both ?
I can see the benefit of setting ones own table at home to impress but I think the pressure that it would not turn out right (the cooking I mean) might be overwhelming for some. I think for me it would be a restaurant. Then the burden of the quality of the food is off loaded which then gives you more time to talk... Cooking a meal I think would be best on the second or third date ! Ah..I just realised that I have answered above as if the question is for a first date !!........sorry ! The answer is still the same though....oh yes...the chance to take wifey out and get away from the house is very alluring.

Eating Out
Its lower in cost to eat out than buy groceries and cook, for example I /wife can eat at RYANS for $5.60 each cafteria help yourself style or the Golden Corral, about same, average $55 to $58 a week, beats sweating over the stove and time wasted.
Eat breakfast at home, dinner out and a snack at night, money in the billfold. Weekends prices go up so do whatever pleases one. REVPO |

That is one thing that I have to disagree with . Except for eating at McD's, I have shown over and over to other people as well as to family that it is far cheaper to fix a really tasty and well made meal at home. The cheapest restaurants in town will run anywere from $7 to $10 per person, per meal (again, not counting fast food, which is flavored cardboard, IMO). So taking the lower limit, that is $49 a week, per person. I spend about $60 per week for both of us, and we are slowly gaining weight, and are never going to bed hungry. This even includes desserts. Counting cleanup, electricity, trouble, it still is far cheaper to fix food at home than to go to a restaurant. (I spent a lot of time, 7 years, working in a restaurant that had very cheap prices.) An example....recently I wanted to take my wife out for Top Sirloin dinner. I called around and the cheapest was $14 each. I went to the store, bought 3 pounds of sirloin for about $10.50, prepared it myself, and the only extra cost was $1 for the lettuce for a salad, .38 for green beans, probably .05 for the potatoes we already had, and maybe $1 for dessert (pudding). So for less than one steak dinner, we had food for two, and still saved money. But the question remains. I'm not talking about cost here, just what everyone would prefer to do. |
