The two things Pakistani's are obsessed with these day are Cable TV & Fancy Cell phones.
We have television in Pak since the 60's. There use to be lots of cinema houses but ever since the arrival of Videos there is only a handful left. I miss watching movies on big screen, loved it. Every one has a TV set. Not just one in a house, but almost every one has one in their rooms depends. The poor love TV more then the Rich.Every poor person has a TV,Audio CD, DVD player & a Camera Cell Phone . In my house we have a 54'' Flat Screen Colour SONY HDTV WEGA series TV & a Samsung 30'' Colour TV for our domestic helpers. We get quite a bit of American channels. But We have a great DVD market here, get all Hollywood latest movies & even old classics . Also many American shows available on TV. Same is the case with music. The Pakistani film Industry is the pits but Indian & English movies sell like hot cakes. Our Television drama's our good . The biggest Industry in Pakistan now is Media. I have seen the Ellen Degeneres show while surfing through the channels. I love Oprah, personally i am obsessed with the News channels CNN,BBC,SKY but find Fox TV very Rude & Bigotted most of the times. Specially Bill O Rielly is obnoxious & a Bigot. My kids they do not watch Pakistani, Indian movies & shows, only Hollywood,Japanese movies & shows and japanese Anime . My daughter speaks Japanese fluently. The boys also understand a bit. They even listen to Jpns songs & i get confused . The boys love Myth Busters on Discovery ,we all watch comedy shows, BBC food, and movie ,movies & movies. The hot favourite with my kids is the show 24 these days. They love Rock Hudson movies specially Come September. And our all time favourite is The Sound Of Music, My Fair Lady & Marx brothers ...A Day At The Races. At times i tell them abt my old heart throbs, Clint Eastwood, Robert Redford, Ryan O Neal ... they say " Ma he's old ", I tell them ' u sillly kids these guys were young at one time '. But they like Clint Eastwood. The older 2 want to become film makers & the youngest A Video Game director/creator . I would want to see them with an Oscar one day. I rub it in to them remember me in ur dedications ....talk volumes abt me ![]() |

Wow, learn something new everyday. I didn't know you guys had so many of the same programs as here, or the same entertainment. Guess if I ever play an online game I should expect a player from Pakistan to enter. However I worry that western culture is taking over too much, I like some of the music from Pakistan and don't want that to be taken over by US popular culture, where quite a few musicians are overrated.

I'm American, my cultural anthropology teacher plays music from other countries and one of the countries that I really wanted to hear music from was Pakistan since it's an islamic country and I haven't heard music from the middle east before.
I once had piles of games in my house, but a lot of the systems started breaking when the new ones came out, and other games were lost or stolen. Right now the ones I sometimes play when not talking or out with friends are Devil May Cry, Soul Calibar and Ratchet and Clank. The only game I tried online was Star Wars Battlefront 2 and made the host quit after killing him three times without getting shot down (Played Rogue Squadron far too long ). I'm trying to track down Evanesence CDs since I finally managed to find a name to match with the voice (I'm horrible with names but great with faces).
