Shopping For A New Car

Shopping For A New Car
This weekend I went car shopping and though I have never before looked to buy a car during these “year-end deals” I must say it was quite an experience. What are some lessons that you have learned about buying new or used cars? What tips or experience could you share with other RFers who are contemplating purchasing a vehicle from a dealership?

TIPS: Be prepared to have people lie right to your face.

When comparing prices be prepared to leave one dealership to go to another dealership and have these people lie to your face too.

Be prepare to become educated to use Truth against their lies to put them in a position that gives you more negotiating.

And (God help us all) be prepared to play the same game.

NEVER, EVER let a dealer pressure you into signing a deal the first day. Compare price, research the product if you are unfamiliar with it and always take a long test drive.

Yeh.. there's also what's called dealer preparation costs that are added...usually these are just stuffing and hot air.

Also watch out for contracts as some dealers will try to fineggle extra payments after the contract is signed...very illegal. See the City Attorney or Distrcit Attorney if this occurs.

Negotiate the price of the trade-in separately from the new car. In fact if you can hold the fact that you have a trade-in throughout the whole deal do so. They are two separate transactions. What you want from the sale person is a solid price (in writing) of the kind of deal you want and they want to give. After that is established drop the trade-in vehicle into the deal like a bomb. Do some internet research to find out exactly what you can get for it. This way the dealers will not be able to finagle the trade-in with the deal of the new car.
