Identity
What determines the identity of something? I can think of two kinds of identity and wonder if there is research on this. Physical Identity refers to what the thing is, and Cultural Identity refers to what the thing does or can be used for. Are there others or are these two all-inclusive?

I think any identity can be defined as a localized region of dominant characteristics within an undivided whole.
