personally, I'm not sure what I'd say was the "most". I've raised a fox, 2 deer, a bull snake (6' long), several garter snakes, sage lizards, turtles, we had a raccoon for a time until he was well enough to turn loose, an oppossum, and we currently have a salamander we've had for almost a year, 2 snakes, and a ferret (and 2 turtles we've had for 6 years).

I guess our ferrets would be the most exotic if you consider that.

We also have rats and cats and in the past have had hamsters, guinea pigs, hermit crabs, and dogs. When I was a kid I had various sorts of fish as well as my parents birds.

Nothing terribly unique or exotic I don't suppose. I do like critters though

I had a Childrens Python for a while, other than that, I've had a couple of hares. One when I was about 3 years old, another that died just over a year ago.
When my licence is through, I'm getting a kookaburra, though I don't know if you'd consider that exotic given that it's a native bird here. And some frogs. I like frogs.

What is a "Children's" Python? I don't think I've heard the term before (I know what a python is, just have never heard of it referred to in quite this way.)

I'd say that a kookaburra would class as a unusual pet. It makes little difference that it is a native bird...just as a guess, I'd think that very few people have them as pets, anywhere in the world. That's the way it is here in the States; all the animals we currently have are native to the US, but most of them are not kept as pets. In fact, both of my turtles are red eared turtles, and though they are a native US species, they come from bayou country in the southeast. Because of that, they are illegal to own in Oregon, the state where I live...they are not native here. HOWEVER I can legally own them, since I've had them for 6 years, before the law was changed making it illegal to own them. (It is called the "grandfather clause", meaning that since I had them before the law took effect, it is legal.) By the way, the law was changed because there was worry that the red eared turtles might escape and force out native species of turtle. That might be legitimate, except that red eared turtles can't survive in our climate...the sustained bitter cold would kill them.

We've had many sage lizards, and that is a very common lizard in this area, but not many people have them for pets. Not many people even think of it.

I'd say that any animal that isn't commonly owned as a pet would qualify as a an unusual pet.

It's a particular species of python...they're quite small, don't get much over about 3 feet in length.

We have laws like that regarding some exotic species of aquarium fish. None of them could actually live if you let them go, and considering how much they cost - $100's up to $1,000's depending - anyone who bought one wouldn't be letting it go, but the government gets an idea and they run with it, no matter how silly.
