Tulip If You Had It To Do Over

Quote:
IF I HAD MY LIFE TO LIVE OVER - by Erma Bombeck

I would have gone to bed when I was sick instead of pretending the earth would go into a holding pattern if I weren't there for the day.
I would have burned the pink candle sculpted like a rose before it melted in storage.
I would have talked less and listened more.
I would have invited friends over to dinner even if the carpet was stained, or the sofa faded.
I would have eaten the popcorn in the 'good' living room and worried much less about the dirt when someone wanted to light a fire in the fireplace.
I would have taken the time to listen to my grandfather ramble about his youth.
I would have shared more of the responsibility carried by my husband.
I would never have insisted the car windows be rolled up on a summer day because my hair had just been teased and sprayed.
I would have sat on the lawn with my grass stains.
I would have cried and laughed less while watching television and more while watching life.
I would never have bought anything just because it was practical, wouldn't show soil, or was guaranteed to last a lifetime.
Instead of wishing away nine months of pregnancy, I'd have cherished every moment and realized that the wonderment growing inside me was the only chance in life to assist God in a miracle.

When my kids kissed me impetuously, I would never have said, "Later. Now go get washed up for dinner."
There would have been more "I love you's" More "I'm sorry's."

But mostly, given another shot at life, I would seize every minute...look at it and really see it! . live it and never give it back.
STOP SWEATING THE SMALL STUFF!!!

What would you do differently?

Absolutely nothing! I have no regrets, no guilts, no disappointments. I wish everyone the same life I have, or very similar at least.

If you had your life to live all over again you would live it exactly as you did because you would not have all the experience that you now have.

I would have told Chris O'Brien I loved her when we were in the 4th grade together. <sigh>

Getting a "round to it":

Rather than lament about the things we could have or should have done...which is water over the dam for the most part... I say most part
because while we're alive there's always something that we can still do... It seems to me we should celebrate the good things we've done and set about doing what still needs to be done! That's why I am looking for a "round toit" so I can get around to it.

I too think we need to let the past be the past and focus on today. I agree with Arthra and the other posters.

What's the use of wasting precious time moaning about what might have been? All we can do is change the present.

When Erma Bombeck wrote her lament she knew she didn't have much longer to live. Some people wait too long to really start living.

There are a million things that I wish I hadn't done. I say this in the same breath with there are two things that I am very glad that happened.

I would "undo" those million in a heartbeat if I could still have the two things that I have now.

I wish sometimes that I could have undone some of the things that I did, but if the result were to NOT have the two beautiful children that I have I would without a hint of doubt, go through everything that I have experienced all over again.

While I have somethings that I regret doing or not doing, I don't think I'd really want to change my life. There are too many things about me that I have struggled to become, and too many things in my current life that I wouldn't give up. By changing even one small thing, I could change the whole course of my life, and may not have the things I have today.
