Right now I'm taking Cal/Mag which is calcium Bix-Glycinate. It is supposed to be 205 times more soluable than calcium citrate. I have heard that calcium carbonate which is the type of calcium on most shelves does absolutely nothing. It will be interesting to see if it works. Other than that I'm not much of a pill taker.

Mineral supplements are useful, but unless vitamins and amino acids are raw, (living material) off shelf prepared ones have little value. (i.e. cooking and/or chemical baths kill) If there are living material capsules maybe the health food (organic) stores have them.

My question has always been 'why not get them from the source?' Save a lot of money also. One for instance: Want some quick vitamin C? Have an hand full of parsley, not very costly, and one of the most potent sources. Tastes good too!

Agreed...to a point. Not always is it possible to eat enough food to even meet the RDA. Point in fact, I am a vegetarian...and I have always had a severe (read anemic) iron deficiency. Without supplements I end up in the hospital...and I refuse to eat red meat to get iron upped.

As I mentioned mineral supplements are useful. The processing doesn't damage minerals (dead material) much. There are vegetable sources for iron, but I can't think of any now, other than raisins and some I've forgotten-sorry! I only know basics, your specialist should have sources.

By all means get the iron!! I am happy to meet a vegetarian AZ! Sadly I have not reached there yet, but 70+% and running! Also I am a bit wary of RDA and the like, with so many variations in the recommendations, but follow your path there. Cheers, and the Best!
