The value of Lavender oil

I've used lavender oil for a variety of purposes over the years. Not least, applied neat to minor burns, it has a wonderful cooling effect. Two weeks ago though, I sustained a rather nasty burn to my leg from boiling water. The medical people have told me not to apply lavender oil whilst they are treating the injury, so I have to abide by their advice. The blister covering the burn has now burst, and the skin underneath is dark red, weeping and very sore, but so far, no infection. Hopefully, the sooner I can start using lavender the better as I think it will certainly help.

Which brings me to my question, are there any other effective natural treatments for burns. I know that vit C in large amounts is considered essential for skin healing for instance.

thanks,

Ian

I too love to use lavender oil...I conbine it with citronella and jasmine oils for an effective pain killer and anti bacterial.

How about aloe gel for the burn? Hope you're feeling better soon.

And just for reference...cider vinegar poured immediately over a SMALL burn will stop the pain almost immediately and accelerate healing.

Thanks

Hi AZ,

Many thanks, I'll try to get some Aloe Vera, as it souns just the ticket. Strangely enough, although the original blister burst, a new one has now formed. It's about four inches long and an inch wide, tre painful !

Aloe is good for burns, but depending on variety, may sting a bit on open wounds, but my experience is that it soothes shortly after.....coooool!

It's an open wound

Thanks, I'll bear that in mind. the upper half seems to be healing, but the lower half is red raw. Looks like several layers of skin have gone. I have to have it checked out at the docs tomorrow.

Good Call!

Take no chances-infections are dangerous! I had a surfing accident where the fin pierced through my hand, but healed fine, no stitches, using aloe after cleaning, but I watched like an hawk for any early sign of intecting, but none, and no ligament damage-I really lucked out!

Hi,

It checked out OK. No infection and it's a clean wound. The've put some dressing on which is designed to dry the wound as it's seeping fluids.

Thanks,

Ian
