Hypnotherapy

Does it work? Has anyone had any experience with this. I had group hypnotherapy for smoking once. I think it worked 4 years later.

Milton Erickson is the man in this area. If you can find a copy get Uncommon Therapy by Jay Haley, its basically a presentation of Ericksons work in case history format except for a few chapters up front on theory (skip them if you have no interest in the theory).

Its great little book, and an eye opener in terms of what can be acheived in trance states.

I can't be hypnotised for whatever reason...perhaps it's my strong will...LOL
LK I'd say you probably were just ready to quit in the 4 years later. I haven't accomplished that yet...but I don't really want to quit right now either. I don't drink, don't do drugs, don't cuss...it's my one vice you might say.LOL

I am currently creating a CD of relaxation, guided imagery, (hypnosis) and motivation.
Hypnosis is not very understood. Experiments with electroencephalograms, (EEG) have shown that there are definite changes in the electrical activity of the brain when a client is in hypnosis. If I can try to describe what it looks like to you....many of us have seen in a hospital the monitor that tracks our heartbeat, or perhaps the tape that show a reading with a lie detector. So when the brain is in the waking state the wave is shown as an even line with small spikes up and down, in light hypnosis the spikes are more pronounced and in deep hypnosis the spiking becomes more elongated and more rounded. It is difficult to explain without a picture. Hypnosis is not sleep. It is not a state of being unconscious. It is not going into a coma, nor even a feeling of drifting off into outer space. While consciousness is entirely suspended in natural sleep, it is most definitely present in hypnosis. This of course makes all the difference. In hypnosis, the subject is aware of everything that is going on around them, and can remember everything afterwards. Most hypnotherapists would agree that any hypnosis is self-hypnosis, inasmuch as it has to be a state of co-operation. In other words, no one can be hypnotized unless they actively wish to enter the state of hypnosis.
It is believed that everyone enters a state of hypnosis every day, naturally, but is unaware of doing so, --perhaps while listening to music, day-dreaming or routinely washing dishes. I believe that anybody can learn to enter that state voluntarily and use it for their benifit. Hypnosis is the state of being deeply relaxed but at the same time, engaged, alert, focused and fully aware of what is going on.
To make it short, yeah, yeah I know...too late. Hypnosis does work, and if you can day-dream, I believe you can be hypnotized. When I finish my CD I might offer it for sale here and you can see for yourself. I believe to reap the beneits of self-hypnosis, one should practice that state of being more than just once.

Thanks Eddie. I can always use more info to help educate people on the benefits of hypnosis.
