Chicken Pox

This story is a little odd. I had both of my children immunized against chicken pox, because the state requires it. But now, my youngest child has them. I feel bad for him, and have been giving him oatmeal baths out the ying yang. That is neither here nor there. If you are a parent and are not aware of this, you should know that 4 out of every 100 children who are immunized will still get chicken pox. The bout that they get will be far less severe, but still very uncomfortable.

Since I didn't know that, I figured many here may not either, so I would share what I learned.

Not only is the story odd, but now we are a county case. Apparently chicken pox has to be reported to the county nurse. I didn't realize that chicken pox was such a serious disease. I just thought it was one of those annoying childhood diseases.

sendy47 will become famous soon enough

I feel they wish to know because they the gov. have used us as guinea pigs, I hope to be wrong about this...i know there is a friend of ours who her little girl ended up with a very serious pneumonia and the gov. is monitoring her and doing continues blood work..because the strain of virus she has was what she had been immunized against. ... I dont wish to sound negative as if the gov is some monster...after all we are suppose to be the gov..and in that case it would be us that is that monster...i think much of well intentioned Dr. and scientists have caused great damage to many cildren.....i think there should be a huge change in the meds that is almost forced on children today...and many who are well intentioned parents are all trusting to there Dr. and as a nation we have a drugged society..and then wonder why there is the issues in the world today....many of the problems i feel strongly have been drug induced....well intentioned or not...we are reaping the last 20 years of medical mistakes....on a plus...there have huge advances that have made life bearable for some who would of other wise not had a nice life....but seems our income level may play a big part in who meds help...and who is just the graph to learn more about the med to know should it be used....

I have had Chicken Pox twice

Sorry to hear that you son is suffering. It's no fun!

Most people -- even some Doctors -- don't realize that is possible, but tghere are different strains of the disease. (I know someone who worked in ECE who had it 4 times!) Usually, after the first case you get shingles instead, not that it's any improvememnt!

I have had both my boys immunizied. Although it's not that serious in children, it's very uncomfortable in adults and teens who contract it, and immunization helps prevent the spread of the disease.

And, since the fatality rate for chicken pox is 6.7/100,000 it is a considerably greater risk than the risk of contracting the disease following vaccination.

I didn't post this to say not to immunize your children against chicken pox, but so that parents were aware that some children will still get this very uncomfortable children's disease anyway. I was very shocked to learn of this possibility, and wanted others to know too, for that just in case it happens to them moment. I feel it is easier to take if you know the possibilities of it.

BTW, EP, there is a 4% chance of getting chicken pox after being vaccinated, and only a 0.000067 chance of dying from chicken pox. You have a greater risk of getting it than you do of dying from it.

There was 4/100,000 chance of getting the disease following vaccination, but I certainly may be in error. It's a number of years since I had the boys vaccinated, and numbers do not always stay with me.

My point, however, was that people often do not realize that chicken pox can be fatal, but it can. It may not be the highest risk (the chances of dying of flu are considerably higher, as I recall) but people tend to be dismissive when you really have to be aware that there are risks.

I wasn't suggesting you were saying people should not vaccinate.

Butterfly

I knew people when I was younger who would purposefully expose their children to it just to get it out of the way because it was so common and they wanted to get it over with. Their was a time when it was expected that your child would get it..just like the 3 day measles...and the mumps.

I wish the vaccination was funded where we are (public system), they have it but you have to pay for it - I think they will do it eventually but when I don't know. Chicken pox can make children seriously ill and I have know of an adult that didn't get it until they were 30 and developed encephalitis, 96% protection is better than nothing. I had 2 x children sick for two weeks concurrently, and my 8 month old at the time was terribly ill as his sister had chicken pox and then immediately came down with Rotavirus right when he developed it and he copped both of them at once.

Any risk of dying from the disease is small but still present, its the complications of chicken pox I worry about and they are common when you are in the situation as we are that it's basically around all the time. I don't think health professionals are in the business to harm anyone, diseases can cause a lot of suffering.

The idea behind vaccinations has merit, but there are many flaws with the science still. For one the preservatives they use in the vaccines, like thimerosal which is linked to autism:

[Letter Feb 2008] Mercury, Vaccines, And Autism: One Controversy, Much Propaganda---Michael F. Wagnitz The author cites the inventors of thimerosal and writes, "extensive in vitro testing shows that thimerosal was 40 to 50 times as effective as phenol against Staphylococcus aureus." He then claims "concerns over neurotoxicity in infants receiving thimerosal from vaccines were never raised by medical or government authorities before the late 1990s." This is false. In 1982, an independent panel was convened by the FDA. The panel called for the removal of mercury, including thimerosal, from all over-the-counter products. It declared thimerosal as being both unsafe and ineffective. It was singled out as being "no better than water in protecting mice from fatal streptococcal infection." It was shown to be 35.5 times more toxic to embryonic chicken heart tissue than the aforementioned Staphylococcus aureus.
He goes on to declare that the "comparatively miniscule exposures [of thimerosal] involved in vaccines were well within all published guidelines for mercury exposure." Unfortunately, he never took the time to analyze a vaccine vial for mercury concentration. The Hepatitis B vaccine, administered at birth for over ten years, contained 25,000 parts per billion (ppb) of mercury in the multi-dose vaccine vial. The multi-dose DTP and Haemophilus B vaccine vials, administered 4 times each in the 1990s to children at 2, 4, 6, 12 and 18 months of age, contained 50,000 ppb mercury. According to the EPA, any liquid that contains more than 200 ppb mercury is to be classified as hazardous waste based on toxicity (3). It's hard to believe that a level of mercury 250 times higher than hazardous waste levels would be referred to as "miniscule." The fact is, on any given day of receiving even a single thimerosal containing vaccine in the 1990s, all published guidelines for mercury exposure were exceeded.
Several pages of the paper examine the toxicity of methylmercury and its past use as a fungicide. We are led to believe that this form of mercury is much different than ethylmercury, the type found in vaccines. This is in spite of the fact that ethylmercury was used for the same purpose. In fact, Ethylmercurric Chloride, the material used as a fungicide (which was banned long ago) is what is used to make thimerosal. This can be easily confirmed by looking in a Merck Index. We now know that this type of mercury deposits twice as much inorganic mercury in the brains of primates as compared to equal doses of methylmercury (4). Inorganic mercury, following the de-methylation of organic mercury, has been identified as the primary neurotoxic agent in primate studies (5).

Do not vaccinate infants and small children. IMO

Make sure you know exactly what they are injecting into you.
If you are the gov't then inform yourself so you are at the same level of knowing as the gov't, that is your responsibility. Ignorance is no excuse.

I have an autistic child and this is just scare tactics. Really, there is no proof suggesting that immunizations are linked to autism. No one knows what causes it, and most of the information that is being used to show that autism is caused by mercury exposure is not scientific, but rather stories from parents who may not keep proper records and depend on faulty memories.

IMO, the immunization/autism link is shouted out by parents desperate for someone or something to blame, some way to say "this is not my fault!" Even is the cause of the disorder is unknown doesn't mean that the parents are to blame. It just means we don't know, yet. The research on autism is in its infancy, with government money finally being earmarked in the 90s for this vital research.

Here are some of the facts on autism:
1. There is no known cause
2. Instances of diagnosed autism are on the rise, but from an increased exposure to the unknown cause or better diagnostic tools, that is unknown.
3. This is a disorder that has a wide range of symptoms and does not go away or get better. It affects the person who has it for his or her whole life.
4. Boys are twice as likely to be diagnosed with autism as girls
5. There is little to do for treatment in a medical sense. There are no pills, no diets, or other physiological treatments available.
6. Many companies are working on medications that may lessen the symptoms of autism, and only one has been released. It still is not a cure or a treatment for the disorder itself, only masks symptoms
7. Many children with autism have behavior that are hard to live with and go against the acceptance of society.

So you are saying that all the evidence is non-scientific???
You are saying that mercury is not toxic or not a danger???
If they admit that there is a link, think of the class action suits they face, of course they will do every trick in the book to make it appear to have no validity.
It is the same thing going on with all the wireless industry. If they admit a link between wi-fi and illness the class action suits will bury them, so they do the same thing as big tobacco has been doing for years.
IMO it is not about finding fault or placing blame, but about making a more wholesome earth for us to live in. This is the place I speak from in my mind and heart.
