From the Bhagavad-Gita

"Who worship other gods with heart of faith, They too adore but Me behind those forms, unknowing of the one direct way."

And how true is that. I don't remember who I said it to on RF, but we were discussing Tao and God. And I told her that her god was created by Tao. This didn't go over too well, but, it's sort of the same idea as what the bhagavad-gita is talking about. All gods are one, only our perceptions of them change. So in essence, man created god in his image. Not the other way around.

Ekam sat vipraha bahudha vadanti

Truth is one, the wise call it by many names.

That is from Rg Veda, one of the oldest written books known to man, and the earliest of the Vedas.

Absolutely true. The gods know our knowledge is limited, and our ability to work out the rights and wrongs of things is fraught with difficulty, not always of our own making.

C.S. Lewis knew this, too. One of the best parts of "The Last Battle" (in the Narnia series) is when Aslan explains that he could not ignore the honest worship offered to other gods.
