What was or is the greatest empire?

I voted for Germany. I have to it is my blood.

I like Germany all throughout time.

Other cultures I like that are ancient is the ancient Norwegians,Swedes,Danes,Celts,Greeks,Romans,Indian s (India.),Egyptians,Sumerians,Japanese,Mayans, and Aztecs.

I really do love history especially ancient cultures.

It all depends on the achievements and contributions to humanity .

I would only say the Greatest Empire would be the one who contributed the most for the betterment of the Human race .
Some empires were Great only for their own benefit .

Before i begin lets not forget The Muslim Empire, The Egyptian Empire,
The Turks,The Greeks, The Japanese Empire & The Chinese Empire .
Though the Egyptian empire was not Islamic at that time but they were Brilliant.
And i am not implying the Islamic Empire was The Greatest or the least important.

In my personal opinion as a student of History The British only Forwarded thier own cause they just grabbed land, plundered & looted wealth
( particularly India & Persia ) and riches very subtly, all for their own good where ever they left they left a mess behind Kashmir,India ,Pakistan , Palestine & Israel and the people of all this region are suffering hence.
I feel sorry for all muslims, Jews, Hindus and rest of the lot living in these areas ( I live In Pakistan ).

Look at their own land, Scotland, Ireland & Wales. Look what the British did with them. Personally i have found all 3 of these nations as beautiful people .

Well it is my firm belief that every culture has somthing great about them or somthing that is defining that makes a culture for what it is.

I believe in cultural relativism.

I do however have some cultural favorites.

"Greatest" in terms of what?

The Celts, for instance (whom I not are not on the list) were not neccessarily an "empire." There was no real unification among them in any official capacity. But as a group with similar culture, language, and beliefs they at one point were dominant throughout nearly all of Europe, into present-day Russia, parts of the Middle-East, northern Africa, and arguably regions of South America*.

As far as power, world influence, innovation, and general standard of living, I'd have to say that present-day America is certainly a strong contender.

*Researchers have discovered remains and evidence of an ancient culture in the northeast region of South America in which statues appear to show that very African-appearing and very Celtic-appearing peoples presumably lived together and shared power.

Rome of course! They were the greatest so far, though I have to say that the Russian Empire (only one successful invasion by a Swedish guy in 1600s in it's intire history), The Napolean Empire (points for actually conquering something) and the Holy Roman Empire circa 1515-1558 (If you want to admit the first two words, it's Ok!) were cool as well.

Well i voted for the Mongols as in territory it extended from eastern europe to japan and included Persia and India so in sheer size and area to me it was the greatest in extent...and even though it was very destructive to some of the countries it conquered, it also provided travel and trade ... a lot of the advances of asia were shared in the west. I believe it was Marco Polo who travelled to through the Mongol dominions ...
