Humanists deny claims of supernatural and transcendent realities. However, some claim to be religious Humanists. They join societies and churches for fellowship and to affirm meaning and ethical commitments. The Humanist Manifesto was first published in 1933. Here is a quote by Raymond Bragg in the second Manifesto published in 1973.

The Humanist Manifesto1, published in 1933 was designed to represent a developing point of view, not a new creed....The importance of the document is that more than thirty men have come to general agreement on matters of final concern and that these men are undoubtedly representative of a large number who are forging a new philosophy out of the materials of the modern world.

A Humanist outlook will tap the creativity of each human being and provide the vision and courage for us to work together. This outlook emphasizes the role human beings can play in their spheres of action. From Sourcebook of the World's Religions edited by Joel Beversluis
