Mohammads comming forseen in a Gospel??

This is a reference to the Gospels from the Quran:

Gospel of John chapter 14 verse 16:

"And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever."

Gospel of John chapter 16 verse 7:

"Nevertheless I tell you the truth; it is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you".

I have two point to make.
First of all, the Quran states that the Christian scriptures are corrupted, so why do they quote them, especially on such an important topic.

Secondly, the quote of the Quran is manipulated:
John 14:16-17 (New International Version)

New International Version (NIV)

16And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever— 17the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be[a] in you.

John 14:16-17 (King James Version)
King James Version (KJV

16And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
17Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

John 14:16-17 (English Standard Version)
English Standard Version (ESV)

16And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another(A) Helper,[a] to be with you forever, 17even(B) the Spirit of truth,(C) whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and(D) will be in you.

I checked various versions of the Bible, but in al of them they tak about the Spirit of Thruth. In other words, they are not talking about a person, but about a spirit. Else, how could 'he' be in you? In other words, the Quran manipulated this text and took it out of its complete contexts so to give it a meaning that would suit the Quran. And after that, they say that Christian texts are manipulated?!

Does it really matter who manipulated the scriptures and who didn't? Unless we find the comforter outside of scripture we will not be comforted : )

Yeah...absolutely . But I happen to have a keen interrest in plowing through holy scriptures and I love to discuss them. I think these internet forums are a wonderful means of discussing without getting to personal and through discussing I usually learn a lot.

But again, thank you for reminding that God is out there and not only in a book.

Jesus said that our understanding must exceed that of the scripture. Jesus's understanding exceeded the old testament and our understanding must exceed the new testament. God is Life, and the only truly living God is the God within our own life....now.

Well, I'm not sure if Jesus said that exactly. Do you have a specific verse from the Bible.....?

Just kidding, but see, even if it comes to Jesus and what he said, you can't avoid quoting specific texts. Else everyone can make up their own quotes and understandings of Jesus.

Furthermore, it is specifically 'interesting' or 'challenging' to discus differences with other religions. It is impossible to do that without refering to the scriptures.

In a discussion with moslims I refered exactly to those teachings of Jesus in which he implies that the laws of the scriptures are only to judge one self and not others, because if you start judging others that you can also be judge on base of the scriptures, and then you have a nasty situation.

Of course that does not mean that in your daily life you should focus on the scriptures the whole time and stuff like that. Sure, in your life you should focus on love, compasion and respect and not on strict rules that are taken to literally from the scriptures.
