Here's a puzzle, but you must promise to be good girls and boys and not cheat.

You have a room with no windows and just a solid closed door.

You have three on/off switches outside the room labelled 1, 2 & 3

You have to determine which of these switches operates the light inside the room. You can do any combination of switching that you like, but you can only enter the room once !..you can not open the door and peek !..The door has no keyhole or catflap or anything like that !

How do you determine which switch operates the light ?....

...you're all a clever bunch, I'm sure you'll get it..

It seems to me that two of the switches must operate something outside of the room. I would determine which two turned on lights outside of the room. The remaining switch would be the one that turns on the room light.

Thanks for trying LK...Yes that is plausible but you have no way of determining what the other switches do..all you can do is flick the switches any way you like..there is no outside indication whatsoever....I'll PM you the solution if you want...or..because I'm overrun with the overwhelming response I may just post the solution here !

Well you open the door, stand outside and flip the switch until you see which one turns the light on, then you enter the room

Why not just turn them all on? When you enter the room the lights are on.

It's difficult to give ongoing clues, all I can say is that if the bulb is on then it will indeed generate heat won't it ?..hmmmmmmm !!
