Not a hard problem (riddle). Put any 3 balls on each side of the balance (scale usage #1) and weigh them. If the balls weigh equal, the heavy ball is in the group of 3 that is not being weighed. If one group of three balls on the balance weighs heavier, the heavy ball is in this group. Now take any two balls from the group of three with the heavy ball and weigh them (scale usage #2). If the two balls weigh equal, the heavy ball is the one not being weighed. If they weigh unequal, the heavy ball is the one tilting the balance his way.
