Sukkot
Ah! Sukkot. I love this holiday. It's usually early fall, it's warm enough to sit outside and yet cool enough that i'm not sweating like a beast.
anywho... Sukkot is the last of the 3 pilgrimage festivals. the tradition is to build a Sukkah, a 3 sided temporary structure built to replicate the temporary structures that the Jews lived in during their time in the Wilderness. It is traditionally held that one should spend as much time as possible in this Sukkah. The 3 walls may be solid but the ceiling should be made of natural materials (such as branches) that cover the Sukkah but still allows a view of the stars and rain to come through. This is another holdiay tied to the seasons and harvest, it is the harvest festival and some argue that this is where the pilgrims first got their idea to have Thanksgiving which falls a little bit later on the Gregorian calender than Sukkot but is in the same time of year. A Sukkah from jewfaq.org for more info check out.. http://www.jewfaq.org/holiday5.htm http://www.torahtots.com/holidays/sukkot/sukkot.htm http://www.ou.org/chagim/sukkot/default.htm
