The Candles and the Tree
as we approach both Chanukah and Christmas in the jewish community we find the greatest assault on our traditions...the lack of understanding of what the hell Chanukah is! I mean we know about lights, and the oil, and the 8 nights it lasted...and latkes and applesauce. But it's hard to compete against Santa, Rudolph, Christmas Trees and "It's a Wonderful Life".
Below is a link to an excellent story from the wonderful people at Aish.com called "The Candles and the Tree" about one jews fight w/ this problem and coming to appreciate the meaning and importance of Chanukah, something he was able to pass on to his children. The Candles and the Tree I hope you enjoy it. Chanukah Tov!
