Actually before 1980s, there were more than 2000 Jews in Pakistan but when
Isreali forces attacked Lebanon,the religious community in our country set
fire to there synagogue in Karachi and because of that the jews felt insecure.
Most of them started migrating from Pakistan ,some of them went to Europe and other went to India.
Still there are 10 Jewish families living in Pakistan and Isreali government
finances them. They receive a letter from Isreali Government which is in both our local language and hebrew.

Ishaac Moosa Akhir is a doctor in the hospital of Karachi,Pakistan and there is a Pakistani Jew whose interview appeared on the local newspaper who is actually a Lawyer.


History of Jews in Pakistan:
The Magain Shalome Synagogue in Karachi was built in 1893 by Shalome Solomon Umerdekar and his son Gershone Solomon (other accounts suggest it was built by Solomon David, a surveyor for the Karachi Municipality, and his wife Sheeoolabai, although these may be different names for the same people). It soon became the centre of a vibrant Jewish community, one of whose leaders, Abraham Reuben, became a city councillor in 1936. There were various Jewish social organisations, including the Young Men’s Jewish Association (founded 1903), the Karachi Bene Israel Relief Fund, and the Karachi Jewish Syndicate formed to provide affordable homes to poor Jews.

You might not know that some of the Pakistani Jews are also living in Isreal.

i've met a few Pakistain jews since being here. It's amazing to hear stories of how people come to israel. I met a family of Iranian jews who walked from Iran after the war of independence and came to israel on foot!

These Pakistani Jews are actually from a city "Karachi" which is the biggest city in Pakistan. Are they Jewish converts or they have linage to Isreali ansasters?
